Portal level search works, site level search not working

If ‘portal level search’ is working and ‘site level search’ is broken in your sharepoint implementation, it may be the case that ‘Full Text Seach’ is facing a few problems.

Full text search should be enabled both in Sql server and Windows SharePoint Services (WSS).

To check for sql server, here is the command:

SELECT fulltextserviceproperty(‘IsFulltextInstalled’)

( Do not copy/paste the command – try writing it urself 🙂 )

If this returns 1, then its enabled, if 0, then its not.

To check for Windows SharePoint Services (WSS):

Go to central administration, click ‘Windows SharePoint Services’ link on the left navigation panel:

Under Compoment Configuration, click ‘Configure full-text search:

Fill the check box and click OK. (If its already filled, still do this operation, due to some OS upgrades it may have stopped working):

WSS Full Text

Hope this helps– 🙂

Hey I was looking at your post trying to see if it would help with the problem I am having. I have a Sharepoint website, and while I was making edits to the website in Microsoft Front Page, I deleted the site level search box all together. Even though I copied another seach box from a different Sharepoint website, the it does not return information during searches. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to reinstall the actual functions of the search box. Every word I input into the search engine comes back as “file not found”. If you could help me, that would be great!
