IE Crashes + MOSS 2007
Whenever you create a list in your site, IE crashes with an error message. You launch a new explorer and find that the list is there, you tried to open it, but the same crash thing happened…Here is a solution
At the following path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office \
you must see one of the two possibilities:
1: office10 and office11 folders
2: office 11 and office12 folders
copy the owssupp.dll file from the lower numbered office folder and paste it to the upper numbered folder e.g. copy the file from office11 and paste it to office12. Office12 will also have this file, just back up that file before the above procedure and save it somewhere on the disk, instead of overwriting it with the office11 file. Now
1. Go to Start Menu
2. Run
3. Type regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OWSSUPP.DLL”
4. Click ok to the error message.
5. Try opening the list or the document again….
This works…. ;)

Thanks, had same problem and this fixed it. I think I got the extra folder because I am running OFFICE 2003, mostly, but Outlook 2007.
MS Wrote a hotfix for this or you use use the MS Diag Tool. I wrote up an article on this here: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/office/fix-ie-crash-when-opening-documents-in-sharepoint/
Thanks!
Hi,
I had a similar problem when opening documents to edit, sharepoint 2003 or 2007, after installing WinXP Pro SP3. I have office10 (xp) plus MS-project 2003. The copy owssupp.dll trick doesn’t work, but the problem sees to originate from that dll because unregistering or disabling it via IE results in the message about no sharepoint-compatible application rather than crash.
I’ve uninstalled SP3, reinstalled Office10, removed all references to Office11 in the registry and NOTHING HELPS!!!
I’m contemplating upgrading office, but have no guarantee that will work, so anybody have a better idea?
THANKS!
Worked like a charm!
